Soul Food – Medicinal Monday – Why Life is Like a Football Game

life is like a football gameIn the past, days gone by, I used to write Soul Food every Monday and send it out discussing anything and everything that Life had brought me the prior week. Being involved with so many other things since Covid, I’ve gotten away from that. Moving forward, Spirit allowing, I’m going to do my best to carry on that tradition with Medicinal Mondays.

After watching the Browns/Ravens game Sunday night, I’ve come to realize that Life IS like a football game. You are playing a game, the Game of Life. There are several players on your team, your boss, your children, your significant others, your friends, your family, etc. I think you get the point here. There are times when some of the players are complimentary and other times when you feel like the defense is just sacking you to the ground no matter how many times you nurse your wounds and throw yourself back in the game.

The fans, an extra component can also be the aforementioned friends, family, loved ones, coworkers, etc. and they can be either brutally cruel, heartless and unforgiving or your biggest supporter. On any given Sunday, as they say in the football arena…it’s the same in life. On any given day you may fumble, get the wind knocked out of you, or throw a touchdown just when you thought the game was over.

baker mayfieldHow do we deal with all of this? Just as in a football game, we have to prepare, what is our goal? How BIG is our WHY? Do we have the necessary pieces to put together a playoff contender of our life?

Once you’ve answered the following questions, then we need to create a game plan, a scheme, as you will, How are we going to execute? What if some of the players on our team in our game of life are out of commission, or on the injured reserve? What if the players in our game don’t show up on the same page and it’s Game Day?

Well, then you have to adjust your game plan. What’s your Plan B? Quit putting the same ingredients in that cake you’re baking if it’s not turning out to be the Blue Ribbon Winner. Go back to the drawing board, change it up, try something different, Focus on what’s working, then come up with a solution!

I know in my life, I could use a little change-up in my game. I know what I need to do more of, and what I need to eliminate. What about you? I’d love to hear your feedback.
