Soul Food-Mercury Retrograde Ushers in New Year’s Eve; Here’s What You Need to Know
Yes, it’s that time again; Mercury Retrograde is here for its last station of 2022. This Retrograde occurs at 24* Capricorn (1:32 am/PST & 4:32 am/EST) and will turn Direct at 8* Capricorn on January 18th, 2023. We spent 2022 with the four Retrogrades moving from air to earth signs. In 2023, the four Retrogrades will move through the earth signs (Capricorn, Taurus, Virgo), ending the year in a fire sign, Sagittarius.
We’ll be dealing with the usual Mercury Rx communication problems (see Survival Guide below). However, a nice twist roughly four hours after the Retrograde occurs, it will conjoin Lady Venus in the Celestial Heavens. Since Capricorn, the Goat is all about structure and practicality, make sure you have all your ducks in a row before the ball drops at the witching hour of Midnight bringing in 2023.
Warrior Mars has been Retrograde in Gemini for quite some time now and will still be in its Retrograde motion along with the Jokester Mercury until January 12th. The time lapse between Mars’s direct station on the 12th and Mercury’s forward motion on the 18th and the changes that occur in our lives are inviolable. Just try not to fight the current and flow merrily down the stream, and life will be much easier.
Besides the typical Mercury Rx “foot in mouth disease,” Mars will add its heat to the mix, watch your need to have the last word, and turn down the temperature in the kitchen. With that Capricorn energy of Mercury, now is the time to “re-think” your professional goals, polish up your resume, and list your career aspirations for 2023. Hold off on taking action until after the Lunar New Year of the Rabbit, January 22nd.
There’s the proverbial chance of bumping into an “Ex” at home or visiting with family since this Rx opposes the sign of Cancer the Crab. Take it easy on the eggnog, and the Champagne Punch, lest you let your guard down and decide to create a sequel to “The Best of Me” or “Love Is In the Air.” They are “exes” for a reason. DON’TS: (let’s get these out of the way)
- don’t install new software or decide to overhaul your computer completely (you’re not the Geek Squad) & even if you are, this is NOT the time to do it
- watch your words; this is the time when people tend to “open mouth, insert foot or whole leg,” and for God’s sake; don’t drunk text or FB after doing shots of Tequila; it’s bad enough when we do it without the
Retrograde - double-check, and triple check, all documents, emails, posts, and appointments, you don’t want to end up in Tijuana when your friend said Topanga, or if you’re in Ohio, the same thing you don’t want to end up stranded in Kinsman when you’re friend is waiting for you in Kirkland
- don’t sign any important contracts or start a new job
- hold off signing on the dotted line for that new house or your new Lincoln
- planes, trains, & automobiles; if at all possible, hold off travel; if you must, triple-check everything; be extra careful with keys, batteries, tires
- HOLD OFF on trying new daring adventures at this time; if you’ve never climbed Mt. Everest, this isn’t the time to decide you’re going to make a name for yourself (unless you want the headlines to read “first-time climber found missing in an avalanche)…also don’t throw yourself in front of a train just to prove it’s not your “time” to go, (that’s just called ‘dumb-ass’)
DO’S:
- reassess, redo, relax, rejuvenate, redesign, re-think, reapply, reflect,
- reconnect with old friends from the past, and don’t be surprised if an ex-lover shows up at your door, this is meant for a reason so that healing can happen, and then the two of you can move forward (or get back together). however, I feel it’s the former
- reorganize your closets, your files
- rewrite that novel you started months ago
- revisit that project you abandoned (I have a few of those)
- something hidden is revealed, be open and aware
THE EXCEPTION:
- If you have a “history” with something, then it’s OK to sign the deal on the house you have a history with (you bid on it months ago, babysat the neighbor’s kids in that house, etc.)
- if your old boss (whom you liked) is at a new company & offers you a job
- If you’re in sales, cars, real estate, etc., look up former clients you have an established “history” with
- you started building a website & put quite a bit of work into it, then let it sit for months
