Soul Food~Why S___ Happens & What to Do About It?

November 3, 2014by Eva Starr0

I have a lot to share today, so read this column when you have a few minutes to devote and take it all in. It’s been one of those weeks, where you’re riding the roller coaster of life, and just when you’re about to crest the top of the hill, the coaster stops and they tell everybody not to worry we’ll have it fixed in a matter of minutes. Thank God that has never happened to me, (being at the top of a roller-coaster when it breaks down) being at the top of the Ferris Wheel is enough to scare the bejeebers out of me, because I don’t like that feeling of being suspended in mid-air and not being “securely” fastened in.

Hummnn, maybe it’s a control thing, the Ferris Wheel is loose, and shaky, not to mention the people you ride with shake the hell out of the seat just because they can, & they know it’ll make you beg for your life and scream “get me down from here.” Whether you’re on the roller-coaster of life or riding the Ferris Wheel, you’re not in control when it breaks down or stops. This is similar to when life throws you a curve ball, and you weren’t looking for it and it hits you square in the nose.

Have you ever had one of those days, or weeks? Why does chaos happen in our lives? I’ll tell you why, it’s the Universes way of getting your attention, giving you a huge wake-up call.  It’s been dialing your number but you’re not answering the phone, so now it’s going to throw the damn phone straight for your head, (now I’m taking those big ass phones we had in the 60s, those hurt).

Chaos happens to shake you up, wake-you-up & get you the Hell out of your comfort zone, and take another direction in your life. Maybe if you’ve really been sleeping at the wheel, it just wants you to TAKE SOME DIRECTION (any direction), but for the rest of you chances are it wants you to look at where you’re going and take another route.

I was having a bad morning Saturday morning while I was getting ready for work, so I quickly called my girlfriend from Avon Lake, OH & was going through my drama when she said “well, it can’t get any worse.” So with that I left for work, I got to work and one of the Veterans came in the kitchen to alert me that I had a flat tire. Swell, I thought, “it just got worse!” I called AAA, the tow-truck driver got lost, my Saturday volunteer in the kitchen called off, and when I went home for lunch I sat on the toilet for two hours trying to figure out what had crawled up inside of me and died, (I was having excruciating stomach pain).

My first thought after I finished work that evening & had a chance to evaluate the days events was the “flat tire.” Where do I feel out of balance in my life? Where do I feel stuck, in a rut? Where has my life lost it’s pizzazz, the wind taken out of my sails? These are all questions I asked myself because I am very much aware how metaphorical the Universe is, and your car represents the vehicle which houses the Soul.

The next day I decided to try out the Spiritualist church at Harmony Grove, it had been destroyed by the May fires, but they just starting holding services again a couple of months ago in the Temple. If you’ve ever been to a Spiritualist church they have “mediums” who do healings and give messages to a few people after the lecture (of course they can’t get to everyone). Then after the service; about an hour or so later they hold a “message circle” for those interested in staying and having Spirit give them messages.

I had brought a book to keep me busy while I waited [an hour or so]. I’m sitting in the Temple, no one else is there at this time, reading my book, You are a Bad Ass by Jen Sincero and a meek quiet mannered lady comes in and asks “What are you reading?” I say “You are a Bad Ass” she looked shocked and walked away, (hardly the title to read in a church, although it IS a metaphysical book). Then another lady comes in with a clipboard and says please sign in for the message circle and it’ll be $20. I was stunned, it didn’t say on the web-site that there was a charge, nor was it announced at the lectern when they gave the announcements. “I wasn’t aware there was a charge, it wasn’t stated on the web-site I told her, I don’t have the cash.” She said “you can write a check,” I told her “I just gave a check for the service offering and I’m tapped out.” She then left the Temple, I started to get up and leave, and the meek, mild-mannered lady who had asked me what I was reading earlier said “don’t leave” and I said “I don’t have the funds” then she looked at me and said “she didn’t say you couldn’t stay and remember you are a bad ass.” (she said with a smile) I was stunned, sat back down, and about eight or nine more people joined the circle before the doors were shut and they let me stay.

The medium went around the room and gave messages from the departed from Spirit to everyone and when they got to me, I couldn’t stop crying, tears streaming down my face. Needless to say, I went home, took it all in, and decided to do something about my flat tire in my life, metaphorically speaking of course.

I came to the realization that the difference between those who make it and those who don’t (of course we all know this) is we need to go from wanting to change our life to DECIDING to change our life.

DECIDING means jumping in all the way, doing whatever it takes, and going after your

dreams with the tenacity of a dateless cheerleader a week before prom night. ~ Jen Sincero

Mind you, I have done this several times in my life, I left Cleveland, friends, family, a career and 52 years of my life to follow a dream, (moving to California). I got guts, I got spunk, I got adventure, but obviously at this juncture in my life I got a flat tire.

“And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.” ~ Anais Nin

If any of this sounds like you, I’m going to share with you, what we can do about it. First off, as I mentioned earlier you need to DECIDE to do something! If you want to live a life you’ve never lived, you have to do things you’ve never done. The next step is you’ll need to raise your frequency, your vibration level, so you’re resonating at the same level of what you want to attract. This can be done in a variety of ways:

  • mediate daily, (simply put spend time in the silence) this will help you get the “intuitive” signs from the Universe when they’re sent to you
  • align yourself with positive people, successful people, avoid the negative like the plague
  • fake it before you make it, start appreciating what you do have to bring better in your life, (i.e. if you want a better home, clear the clutter in the one you have, add a few splashes of paint, or decor that makes you feel good) then be open to NEXT…
  • get crystal clear about what it is you want, and I do mean crystal clear…God didn’t say “Make Me Guess”
  • Love Yourself, this is mandatory and not an option…and needs to be repeated constantly throughout your life
  • 811-Astronautlast but most important of all, STOP listening to the Dream-crushers, and quit giving a hoot about what other people think (I’m going to devote the next paragraph to this one)

I’ve talked about this subject many times, people are fearful and don’t like watching somebody else go after what they wish they could do butSimba_full don’t have the chutzpah to do it. You DO and you CAN do it! Remember people who criticize what you do, or what you want to do, it’s not about you it’s about THEM. Growth isn’t for the faint hearted, it’s for the Simbas of the world, “ha, I laugh in the face of danger.”

We know our friends and family are the worst offenders, so what do you do? KEEP YOUR DAMN MOUTH SHUT! That’s right, only share those dreams and goals with the people who REALLY want to see you succeed. I have news for you, if you think that list is about a dozen or so, you better recheck it, because it isn’t. The most important things I’ve received in my life, I didn’t tell a solitary soul, not even my daughter when I got my first house on the lake. I told her the day we were moving, “here’s a big garbage bag, go put everything in your room in this bag, we’re moving today.” Every home I had since then in Ohio was on the Lake.

Also, remember with big changes comes big thorns in your side, don’t quit. Life knows what it’s doing, sometimes things happen because you will learn a bigger lesson, or maybe land a better job, or a more beautiful home. Once you have DECIDED on your dream, be like a train, get tunnel vision, stay on track, don’t let any0ne or anything derail you!

I feel I’ve covered enough for now, that should give you a jump start. As always, thanks for your continued support and generosity, if you’ve been inspired in any way feel free to click on the Angel Wings (at the top of the page).

Love, Gratitude & Blessings to You,
