Thank you everyone for the birthday wishes, I have returned from my 3-day Glamping trip and have a lot to share with you. I learned many things about myself and life in a short period of time. I learned that:
- Glamping is definitely not for me, besides breaking the bank, I’m an Ohio girl and like the primitive camping by a lake with WATER in it, where I can fish, and I like sleeping with my head on good ol’ Mother Earth, and can do without running water or electricity for a few days, (as long as I have my corkscrew with me). Don’t get me wrong the cabin was decent enough but for the price I could’ve gone on a cruise. You had to bring everything; dishes, glasses, and even your own tea bags.
They do have everything in the Canyon Market located in the campground. If you want hot dogs, they come in a kit, you can’t find them on the shelves, the kitchen will prepare them for you “ready to go” for the lovely price of $50 for two people. For that price I’d be better off buying stock in Oscar Mayer.
- I learned that I can’t let go of something as easily as I thought, Duh? I’m a Cancer, we hold onto things with those pincer crab claws of ours with the tenaciousness of a Pit Bull. But, if I could’ve done my Eckhart Tolle impersonation I probably would not have thought about how much it was costing me per night and stayed in the moment of the very pricey cabin long enough to fully enjoy it.
- I learned that when I did get out of my ego for a moment, I could enjoy the tide pools at El Capitan State Beach, and the Star Fish at the Ty Sea Center on Sterns Wharf in Santa Barbara. I learned that nature is one of the best things God has going for him. To see a LIVE Star Fish attached to a rock in the ocean is a magnificent sight to behold. (maybe it’s because my name is STARR that I am so enamored with them.)
- I learned that when you’re down in the dumps and feeling depressed that a best girl friend (is only a phone call away) and a bottle of wine can help get you through the rough spots.
- I learned that California wood must have a different DNA than Mid-West or East-Coast wood, because I couldn’t let a fire to save my life. The fire never got any better than half-lit, mirroring the person trying to light the fire.
- I learned that when you’ve tried everything there is under the sun, it’s best to “surrender” and go to the campground market and buy fire-starters.
- I learned that we all make mistakes, (even pricey ones) and the more I dwell on it the bigger it grows, so I say BE GONE! That’s it, never to be mentioned again.
- I learned that camping is not a SOLO sport, it’s a family affair. Without friends & family there with you to enjoy the $50 hot dogs it’s not fun. A side note: Family or No Family, $50 hot dogs for two would have to come with Paolo Maldini or Richard Gere to light the fire.
- I learned that when hiking the trails I came across deer, squirrels, and a posted sign half-way up the trail; WARNING: Juvenile mountain lion spotted, proceed with caution. I learned that wherever there’s Jr.; Papa can’t be far behind, no thank you.
- I learned that life’s too short and you have to laugh at yourself and your mistakes along the journey. I learned that I love you and appreciate you allowing me to share my thoughts about my life lessons.
- Finally, I learned at the ripe old age of 59 I still got what it takes!
I love you and appreciate you, many blessings to you,
