Soul Food – ‘Til You Can’t (Warning: Emotional Content)
Years back, when I was teaching the Louise Hay classes, there was a section in her book You Can Heal Your Life where she talks about our resistance to change and the myriad ways this shows up in our lives:
- non-verbal clues: (changing the subject, leaving the room, getting sick, procrastination)
- assumptions: (my case is different, it wouldn’t do any good, I don’t want to bother them)
- beliefs: (it’s too far to drive, it’s too expensive, it’ll take too long)
- them: (it’s their fault, it’s against my upbringing, as soon as I get _____, I’ll do it)
- self-concepts: (too old, too poor, too short, too thin)
- delaying tactics: (I’ll do it later; I don’t have the time, as soon as I get through with _____)
- denial: (what good would it do, it was alright last time, there is nothing wrong)
- fear: (I’m not ready yet, I might get hurt, I may lose my freedom)
Trust me, in going back through my Louise Hay book, there are quite a few I had underlined that were in my vocabulary (and some still are).
I was driving home from somewhere Sunday, and this song came on the radio (watch video).
I thought to myself, this is a GREAT song and an excellent reminder of how short life is, and we need to take a chance, chase a dream, make a phone call. I’ve lost waaaaaaaay too many people in my life, so I’m pretty good about saying I love you and sending a card, etc., but I still have work to do on a few things on the above list.
However, what about you? Where are YOU not taking a chance, chasing a dream, or making a phone call?
