Soul Food-New Moon & How to Capitalize
This morning at 1:21 AM EST and 10:21 PM (last night) PST, the Moon moved into Sagittarius at 9* in conjunction with the Sun. A New Moon occurs each month in a different Zodiac sign. Think of it as Baskin-Robbins, which has a new monthly ice cream flavor. The New Moon represents new beginnings, fresh starts, and a second chance. In astrology, the New Moon is often seen as a time for setting intentions and starting anew, hence the concept of a ‘second chance ‘.
Being a Cancer Moonchild, I love everything about the Moon: the New Moon, the Full Moon, the Half Moon, you name it. If it has a Moon in it, I love it. I especially loved moon pies as a child, although I don’t eat anything quite like that now, in my elder years.
Sagittarius has rulership over the 9th House of the Zodiac: adventure, freedom, foreign travel, spirituality, and higher learning such as metaphysics, philosophy, and theology. The Centaur, half man, half horse, represents Sagittarius. Look to your birth chart to see which house is ruled by the sign of Sagittarius, and that’s where you can expect new beginnings, fresh starts, and a new leaf in life.
There is a little glitch in this New Moon; however, it is squaring Saturn (a square representing a harsh 90° aspect). The square is asking us to take responsibility and tighten up our discipline. Saturn, the Taskmaster, asks you to ensure that all your i’s are dotted and your t’s are crossed. You want to keep up with your daily obligations; this will reduce any guilt or fear you may feel.
However, Sagittarius will not likely allow you to feel guilt and fear for too long. It’s more of a jovial, freedom-loving, let’s go on an adventure type of sign. Consider marking a day in December before the Winter Solstice arrives in the sign of Capricorn to go on an adventure. Start that morning without plans, and see where the wind takes you. This could be a mountain hike, a spontaneous road trip, or even a day exploring a new city.
A cliche that could be used to describe this New Moon with the Saturn square aspect is to keep the faith. There are some positives to this Sagittarian New Moon. Sagittarius always looks for the positive; it reminds me of a Gale Garnett song. For those old enough to remember Gale Garnett, her one-hit wonder “We’ll Sing in the Sunshine.” I love that song.
Remember, we have a New Moon every month, offering you a fresh start and a second chance. Two weeks after every New Moon, we have a Full Moon, providing you with an opportunity to let go of what no longer serves you. The cycle continues, with another New Moon appearing two weeks after the Full Moon. So, if you don’t get it right this month, don’t worry. You’ll have another chance in January, February, and beyond. The future is full of possibilities.
With this New Moon squaring Saturn, you’ll get a chance to rejuvenate, go back to the drawing board, and define your priorities and goals. The Taskmaster Saturn will keep you on task, guiding you through its lessons. However, it will also bring a sense of pride and reward when you’ve kept to the trail and reached the end, seeing that beautiful sunset representing a job well done. You’re not alone on this journey.
Jupiter, the ruler of Sag, tends to exaggerate or expand everything it touches, so it’s essential to keep humility in check. Don’t overdo a good thing, and don’t think you’re better than you are. It’s like the country song by Toby Keith, ‘I may not be as good as I once was, but I’m as good once as I ever was.’ My best advice for this week is not to overdo the confidence, remain humble, stay honest, and come from a spiritual place of self. Remember, balance is the key. It keeps us grounded, centered, and in harmony with the universe.
Here’s a little inspiration for the week, taken from the International University of Metaphysics ( I just recently started back on my classes):
“To be, or not to be” could be seen as this very wise question: “To be a Universal Reality Identity, or not to be—that is, to remain a limited, false, personal ego identity.” Indeed, that is the question. To the point: will one’s decision-making be made as a result of the opinions of others, accumulated in the memory consciousness of the personal ego, or will one’s decisions be inspired intuitively by the only Real Identity—Universal God Presence? Will the decisions arrived at be powered by the will of the false personal ego, or the One True Life of God’s Universal Presence manifesting its Spirit through the soul and the surface mind-awareness of a person?
It is a choice between living by one’s wits (the personal ego), or by the wisdom of the ages—past, present, and future—that flows inspirationally and intuitively through oneself. To the mystic who has pierced through the veil of outer sense perception and has glimpsed the Greater Reality that is Real Life and Real Identity, it is not a matter of choosing false, personal ego identity or Real Universal Identity, for there can only be Universal God Presence and Will as the Source of all decision-making in one’s life.
