Soul Food-New Moon & How This Affects Bringing in 2026

Besides all the hustle and bustle of the upcoming holiday season, a new chapter quietly turns its first page. The New Moon today, Friday, December 19, is not just a date on the calendar—it’s the opening note in a fresh symphony, a 28 1/2-day cycle of renewal. Like gardeners pruning old branches to make room for new blooms, it’s time to question the thorny habits, tangled patterns, and worn-out beliefs that no longer serve us, and to welcome the visionary fire of Sagittarius for 2026. What seeds do you wish to plant for the year ahead? Between the creation of your vision board and the sacred ritual of the New Moon lies a window of about three days—a liminal space where intentions take root. Let the New Moon begin its magic late on the 19th, at 8:43 PM EST (or for my West Coast friends, 5:43 PST), when the sky’s stage is set at 28° Sagittarius.

This is occurring very close to the galactic center, as my good friend Louise pointed out. Here’s a little bit of info on the galactic center, just in case you’re like me and have been living in a cave.

If you choose to take advantage of this Sagittarian New Moon energy, I would probably sometime during the early hours on Saturday, or if you’re a procrastinator, sometimes Sunday, create your vision board, do your New Moon ritual, etc. I would probably set your intention right after the New Moon. Then I would wait until Saturday morning because right after the New Moon on Friday evening, the Moon goes void-of-course from 10:40 pm till just 11:52 pm, just before midnight, when the Moon enters the hard-working, business-oriented structure of Capricorn. Then finish off your rituals and your vision boards at the beginning of the Capricorn New Moon.

This moon, this new moon, does not arrive crowned in sugar-dusted dreams or fairy wings. Instead, it glides in under a veil spun by Neptune—the master of illusion and confusion, wearing rose-colored glasses that can blur the line between fantasy and truth. Like a mist that drifts across the landscape, Neptune bends reality, inviting us to step carefully as we move through this enchanted night.

Be careful not to overindulge in the holiday spirit and food and drink you are imbibing. There is a risk of overdoing it and possibly ingesting lower-quality ingredients. You’ve been forewarned. Note to self.

I won’t go into world affairs too much, for as most of you know, I do not listen to the news, read the newspaper, or anything of the sort. With everything invading the Internet these days, it’s hard to miss some of the headlines. However, I’m gonna make a concerted effort for 2026 to just concentrate on my metaphysical spiritual practices and become a hermit to the outside world. As I’ve always maintained my entire life, if there’s something in the universe that needs me to know it, it’ll find me. It’ll get that information to me.

Yet, through the storm clouds Neptune conjures, a shaft of sunlight breaks through—the New Moon quincunx Uranus. Like a wild breeze that rattles the windows and flings open the doors, Uranus stirs up the air with electric anticipation, a yearning for something novel, fresh, and free. It urges us to dance on the edge of possibility, but warns us too: the same wind that brings change can topple what is not anchored. Expect the unexpected, for this is the energy of sudden shifts and delightful chaos.

I’m gonna try to look at the bright side, and keep an open mind. Remember, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. I keep trying to tell myself that, one day, I’ll believe it. Amongst all the disruption and erratic change, through the wreckage, opportunities can be found.  Why do you think they find treasures in sunken ships?

In this celestial dance, Uranus also extends a hand to Neptune, the God of the Sea, in a harmonious sextile. Imagine them as two artists collaborating on a cosmic canvas—one splashing bold strokes of innovation, the other blending currents of intuition and dreams. This partnership offers creative solutions and restores harmony, awakening us spiritually and whispering answers to age-old philosophical riddles. Watch your dreams closely; the night may become a wellspring of insights, revealing tides of change that pull us closer to unity with the universe.

As I mentioned, I prefer not to dwell on the shadows, yet we can’t ignore how the stars align. Scorpio’s influence (due to the positioning of the Constellations) lingers like a dark river beneath the surface, amplified by Neptune’s deceptive fog. Beware the Scorpion’s sting and the whisper of the poisonous dragon—reminders that not all that glitters in the night sky is benign.
