Soul Food-If you Let Go of this 7-Letter Word for 2022 it Can Change Your Life

control freak cartoonI’m about to share with you the Eva Starr method of eliminating the “C” word from your life…

WARNING: This is much easier said than done, and I will grant you a world of time to accomplish this feat. After all, I’ve been working on this one since I spit the pacifier out of my mouth, “I’ll decide when & how I want to soothe myself,” I thought, as my mom would shove the damn thing back into my mouth.

What is the seven-letter word that could be ruining your life? C-O-N-T-R-O-L. Not only could it be ruining your life but the sad part is, YOU are allowing it! While you are self-sabotaging yourself, your relationships, and your business you’re spending sleepless nights in Seattle, Cleveland, or San Diego worrying about how “you” can control the “outcome” of whatever it is that isn’t working. LOL, go ahead, you may LOL again! (Didn’t we learn from all my metaphysical teachings and writings the “how” is up to God, the Universe, the Easter Bunny, call it what you want, but this is another side of the subject.)

I learned quite a tractor-trailer full of this lesson all in about 24 hours on New Year’s Eve. Oh, I thought when I woke up on New Year’s Eve day, “I’m going to get up early, beat the New Year’s Eve grocery crowd, and get myself a “real nice” filet mignon to enjoy on New Year’s Eve. Then I’m going to make a nice mushroom Bordelaise sauce to go with it, crack open a bottle of Champagne and settle in on my comfy couch to watch the first-ever New Year’s Eve Country Music Bash in Nashville.

WRONG!!!

pray and let it goI’ll sum it up for you in a nutshell, so you don’t have to go through my long-drawn-out misery yourself!

  • I went to SEVEN stores in a matter of three hours & still never found what I was looking for
  • I came home and tried to add my January horoscopes (so you would have them BEFORE the first of the month) to my website, which had some major glitch preventing me from doing so…(which I spent another three hours on)
  • then  I didn’t have enough time to make my mushroom Bordelaise sauce for my filet-mignon
  • and when I tried to get on Paramount-Plus on my laptop to watch the NYE Nashville special, it wouldn’t let me pick up the NYE Nashville Bash, (which is part of my Paramount-Plus package) – again a glitch with the program on my laptop (nothing to do with the program itself)

Need I say more, this is what I learned from ALL of the above:

  • for 2022 I’m going to shop at ONE store, even if some items cost me a bit more
  • when I’m working on a computer issue or something else that is “out of my control” I’m giving myself a five-minute limit before I move on to something else
  • when I have all these gourmet items that each take a long time to cook, one time-consuming item per meal, THAT’S IT! (on NYE I made a Parmesan-Proscuitto Risotto which was very time-consuming) the Bordelaise sauce would’ve taken another hour & a half in time from start to finish

These are just a few things on my list, which started a chain reaction to lose my patience, lose my sanity, lose my motivation & enthusiasm while forgetting “WHY” I’m doing all of this in the first place.

cartoon control freakBefore I take you any further, let’s find out if you qualify for a control freak in the first place, most control freaks DO NOT think they’re control freaks. Here are your signs:

  1. You intervene on behalf of others, trying to explain or dismiss their behavior
  2. You judge others’ behavior, withholding attention until they fall in line with your expectations, OUCH! (The silent treatment is a MASTER form of control)
  3. You don’t believe in imperfection, and you don’t believe anyone else should either
  4. You have a hard time with ambiguity and NOT knowing something…double ouch!
  5. You believe that if someone would change one or two things about themselves, you’d be happier; so you try and “help them” change
  6. You present worse-case scenarios in an attempt to influence them away from certain behaviors and move them toward others, (fear-mongering) Our government, oops I probably shouldn’t have said that…
  7. You offer “constructive criticism” as an attempt to advance your own agenda
  8. You change who you are or what you believe so someone will accept you

OK – so most of us will relate to at least a couple of these items, and if you tell me NONE of these items you can relate to, well then that’s a subject for another blog.

Here’s my advice to help you relinquish control in the areas of life where you need to “loosen up.”

  • For myself, my connection with Spirit and surrendering to a higher power, having the FAITH that God/Universe hasn’t failed me yet, (I’ve always made it) so why in the Hell would I think he/she would let me down now.
  • Remembering all the times in the past when the BEST, greatest, most wonderful, and out-of-the-blue miraculous things, situations, or people came to me, I usually didn’t plan it, (it just “happened”)
  • I keep a gratitude journal, or a “God Wink” journal, or synchronicity journal (call it what you want), this helps me remember all the things I’m grateful for, and doing this brings MORE things into my life to be grateful for
  • I’m a firm believer in tithing, (a touchy subject for some). I believe by giving back I’m sending a message to the Universe that I TRUST that you will fill my cup runneth over, (the Universe abhors a vacuum), and I’m keeping the circle going, moving the energy to continue to do what is best, ( I can honestly say I’ve never met a “former” tither)
  • Proactive, staying in the present moment, when we aren’t obsessing about the past (which we can’t change anyway, only our thoughts about it) or worrying about the future, we can let go of control. I had (I’m trying to be positive about this one for 2022) a hard time always looking in the rear-view mirror (I could actually write a novel about this one)

I just want to add something else here, if we break some of the things down that bother us, there ARE things we can control…

Cat meditatingFor example:

  • if you become fearful listening to or reading all the horrible things happening in the world or your own neighborhood – then disconnect, turn off the TV, quit reading all the emails filled with bad news
  • if every time you visit a certain person you come home, depressed, drained of energy, or simply pissed off – then limit your time with them, or cut bait altogether
  • keep a journal for one week of everything that caused you angst, sadness, frustration, or just plain not good feelings – then take the list & replace each one of those things with another plan

I won’t belabor this any longer…

Happy New Year & Happy New Moon (write your new moon abundance check)…sorry this blog was supposed to go out Friday morning, with my January Starr Scopes, and my New Moon blog was supposed to go out Saturday morning…

Oh well…shit happens…

Blessings,
