How to Improve Your Luck

How to Improve Your Luck My step-mom sent me an article (quite awhile back) from her Readers Digest magazine on improving your luck written by Richard Wiseman. I was so intrigued by it, that I’ve saved it and read it several times. According to Wiseman, “Lucky people seize chance opportunities; creating self-fulfilling prophecies through positive expectations; and adopting a resilient attitude that turns bad luck around.”Over a period of ten years, Wiseman conducted tons of experiments on what makes some people lucky and others not so. I’ll let you read the experiment itself, (it is actually quite mind blowing) How to Get Lucky

The lesson: Unlucky people miss chance opportunities because

they’re too busy looking for something else.

Lucky people see what is there rather than just what they’re looking for.

To sum it up this is what Lucky people do differently:

  • are more open minded, willing to try new things
  • add variety to their life, sit in a different chair, take another route
  • place themselves in more situations, (i.e. going places, joining groups, taking classes) in other words CIRCULATE
  • and they look at a “bad” situation differently, (like it could’ve been worse)
    • for example when I had my car accident (a lady ran a stop sign & literally totaled my car) I had just left church a block away & a friend of mine said “if you wouldn’t of gone to church it wouldn’t of happened”. My response (and the way “I” look at things) was “ARE YOU KIDDING ME, IT’S BECAUSE I JUST LEFT CHURCH THAT I AM STILL ALIVE.” So you see the difference in the thought process.

“One of the biggest differences between LUCKY people and the rest of the world is Lucky People CHANGE things around, move out of their comfort zones and aren’t afraid of taking RISKS! ~ Eva Starr
