Soul Food-New Moon, Spring Equinox, & Mercury goes Direct
I’m about to share a few of the significant planetary aspects coming up in the next few days.
  • Venus, Aphrodite herself, clashed with Jupiter, mighty Zeus, this morning—a cosmic dance of tension and temptation, as if the heavens were holding their breath.
Interestingly enough, I was going to write about a similar topic this week, but life’s banquet was already overflowing. Jupiter, the planet of expansion, leans in with a raised brow, warning us not to over-indulge in Venus’s velvet pleasures. Over the last few days, I’ve realized that money doesn’t buy happiness. The true gold in my life—and in others’—has always been laughter echoing through thrift shop aisles, the warmth of loved ones close by, and the sparkle of kindness exchanged in the simplest of gestures.
I think about the people who worked hard all their lives, at the cost of missing their kids’ tee-ball game, or their daughter’s school play, the father-daughter dance, and the list goes on. Then they retire, long overdue, and work day and night to “build” a life instead of “living it” as they grow into their late 70s.
I came across a photo while looking something up on Google the other day. It was a photo of Deshaun Watson’s (the $230 million-dollar mistake the Cleveland Browns made) wife carrying a $50,000 handbag. She was flaunting it like she was holding the Moon or something. I thought, If I had $50,000, a handbag would be the last thing I’d buy.

As a Cancer, I’m a moonlit treasure hunter, drawn to the hidden gems of thrift shops and vintage havens like Goodwill and Salvation Army. Rosie, my granddaughter, laughs, “Nanna, OMG, you’re the most frugal person I know.” Yet for me, every corner of my home is a constellation—each knick-knack, astrology piece, moon trinket, or wine gadget a star linked to a story. I can trace their origins to rural towns and cozy Airbnbs, memories gathered like stardust while wandering through farm country thrift shops.
Now, I’m not saying you can’t enjoy spending a little money. But if you reflect on your life, the best moments are often about the people you were with, the laughs and tears you shared, and the memories made together.
  • The Moon is making a nice sextile (pleasant) aspect to Uranus (the change-agent) tonight.
Today, I decided to slip away for a simple, quiet lunch, hoping to momentarily untangle myself from the web of CCDCFS stress, endless caseworker visits, and the slow-motion marathon of adopting Rosie. Over lunch, I found myself transfixed by a silent hockey documentary – ( a story ran about the Columbus Blue Jackets and Johnny Gaudreau, who was killed one night riding his bicycle in New Jersey) —no sound, no captions—just the ballet of struggle and triumph on the screen. Tears welled, elation flickered, and I realized: sometimes, we must step off the spinning carousel of life to remember we’re still alive, still breathing, still capable of feeling wonder.
Normally, this wouldn’t have meant anything to me (remember, I gave up television, newspapers, and the news in 1989, the night my youngest daughter, Shayna, was born). However, this past winter, I caught part of a Team USA hockey game at the Winter Olympics, which they won. Everyone—players and fans—held up huge ‘Gaudreau’ signs. Now, I understand what that afternoon of catching the hockey team USA winning the Olympic Gold medal in overtime meant!
  • New Moon in PiscesRight now, at 9:23 pm EDT, the New Moon in Pisces at 28° drapes the night in mystery, arm in arm with the Sun, who lingers at the zodiac’s final threshold. Pisces, the dreamer, stands poised at the edge of the celestial stage, ready for the curtain to rise on the Spring Equinox, when the Sun leaps into Aries and the world inhales the promise of new beginnings. Do your New Moon Abundance Check (today or tomorrow)
Pisces is about reflection, soul-searching, and taking time to dream and look within. It encourages asking ourselves, “What really matters? Why am I here? What can I bring to humanity?” These are the questions Pisces draws from the deep oceans of our Souls.
  • Ponder this over the next few days, before the Sun enters Aries at 10:46 am EDT on Friday, March 20th. Then ask yourself: What do I want to initiate? What action steps do I want to take to welcome the birth of Spring in my life? How this New Moon will affect your Zodiac sign
  • On Friday, March 20th at 3:33 pm EDT, Mercury stations Direct! Sound the trumpets, beat the drums, and fire the cannons! I’m beyond excited—this Mercury Retrograde has been brutal for me.
We’ve journeyed through storms and shadows. Now, it’s time to till the rich soil of our souls, plant, nurture, and water the seeds of our intentions as Mercury moves direct and the Sun throws open the gates into Aries—inviting you to sow your wildest hopes, dreams, and wishes.
There’s more planetary aspects ahead, but for now, I’ll let these thoughts germinate until next week’s blog. Please send prayers and blessings for Rosie and me.
Love, Starr
